Product Description

Indonesian Art - Dragon

Hand carved by Puspa in the village of Mas in Bali, this representation of a Chinese dragon is evidence of the influence on Indonesian art by the Chinese traders who, over the centuries, have plied the trade routes between the archipelago and China. The carver has created a lively and imposing sculpture in rain tree wood.

A replaceable hardwood, rain tree, or suwar (as it is known in Bali), behaves well when transported out of the tropics. Its crisscross, interlocking grain keeps the wood from cracking, even in large carvings.
